This will be spoiler-free, I promise.
The movie was entertaining, but it wasn’t great. If you had been following the trailers that were released before the movie, you would have pretty much seen it all.
The plot is thin, especially compared to the first movie. The cast did a good job underneath the many layers of special effects. I especially enjoyed Dane DeHaan, Jamie Foxx and Sally Field’s performance. However, any real character development was mostly missing, which is (quite) understandable, given how much the director wanted to cover.
Be warned though, Sony’s product placement was everywhere. In any conceivable shot, they would squeeze in a Vaio or a phone which gets a little annoying after a while.
Overall, it’s an enjoyable movie although it didn’t connect with me nearly as well as the first one. You should watch it and you will have a good time but don’t expect too much after it’s all over.
One last thing, do stay for the post-credits scene.
