It seems like our behaviours are shaped by our immediate physical environments, if that behaviour is repeated enough. This means that in order to successfully change a certain (bad) behaviour, you’ll need to alter the physical environment that behaviour is associated with.
When I stopped smoking a few months ago, I had deliberately changed the commute to the office just to avoid my usual smoking spots. I haven’t read this yet, but during that time, it made sense to steer clear from the spots which could trigger the behaviour.
If you’re struggling with changing a bad habit, make the most of your effort by deploying this hack. It might be all you need to get you over the line.
