What will you see if you attach a small, unobtrusive digital camera onto a cat’s collar?
This is Cooper, an orange cat made famous by his daddy’s novel idea of letting the feline document his day, two minutes at a time.
From the flickr set, it seems like a project that started back in October 2007 and in a little over a year, Cooper has become quite a celebrity. He is even featured on a show on Animal Planet’s Cat 101.
What’s most interesting to me is that the pictures offer insight into how visual cats can be. Some of the pictures have excellent composition and depth-of-field. Some others are just pure surreal.
We know a dog is mainly ruled by their sense of smell, but do these pictures tell us that cats are very much more visual? From Cooper’s point of view, it certainly seems so.
Cats are visual hunters but they’re color-blind because color is not important when it comes to spotting prey. Brightness is more important because they’re so nocturnal. Cats can see about five to six times better than humans in the dark.
Nonetheless, Cooper’s pictures are fascinating insights into the life of a cat. If you have the time, go have a look and it should get you thinking too.
ooooh nice kitteh…. kewl project!
